Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) is a 110-hectare mixed-use district in Dubai and a designated free economic zone. It was established in 2004 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and is now one of the world’s leading international financial hubs.
DIFC has its own legal system based on English common law. It is regulated by an independent financial authority — the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA). This framework ensures a secure, transparent, and business-friendly environment, supported by world-class infrastructure and services.
As of the end of 2024, Dubai International Financial Centre was home to 6,920 registered companies, including banks, investment funds, insurance firms, and legal entities. Their number continues to grow steadily — in 2024 alone, it increased by 25%. DIFC is a key financial hub for the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region. Thanks to its strategic location in the heart of Dubai, it provides businesses with access to the rapidly expanding markets of 77 MEASA countries.
DIFC is a mixed-use district with not only corporate offices but also premium residential developments, luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, art galleries, retail outlets, social facilities, and entertainment venues.
DIFC is conveniently situated in the central part of Dubai, making it an ideal location for both business and living. Sheikh Zayed Road, the city’s main highway, runs alongside the district, providing easy access to other parts of the emirate. The area is well connected by both private and public transport, with Dubai International Airport just a 15-minute drive away.
To the south, DIFC borders the iconic Downtown Dubai, while Business Bay lies to the southwest.

260 banking institutions, 410 wealth and asset management firms, including 75 hedge funds, 125 insurance-related companies, over 70 brokerage firms. The free zone also houses regional offices of major global banks such as HSBC, Citibank, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, and others.
Financial Technology (FinTech). DIFC is actively expanding its FinTech ecosystem through FinTech Hive, one of the largest accelerators for fintech startups in the region. The district is also home to the Dubai AI Campus, now the largest specialized cluster in the region for companies focused on artificial intelligence and Web3 technologies. Notably, DIFC is the first jurisdiction in the world to enact a Digital Assets Law. As of 2024, more than 700 fintech companies are registered in the district, operating across sectors such as blockchain, RegTech, InsurTech, and more.
Legal Services and Consulting
Top international law and consulting firms, including Clifford Chance, Allen & Overy, Baker McKenzie, and Deloitte operate in DIFC. The district has created and uses a dedicated platform for dispute resolution, including the DIFC Courts and an arbitration center.

DIFC is known for its creative atmosphere, seamlessly integrated into the business environment. The district is home to art galleries such as Opera Gallery, Tabari Artspace Gallery, Sconci Gallery, and Andakulova Gallery, showcasing works by artists from around the world. DIFC regularly hosts DIFC Art Nights — open-air exhibitions and creative festivals.
The district is also famous for its nightlife, with rooftop parties, art evenings, and private screenings. Popular lounge bars in the area include Alma Music & Art Lounge Dubai, BOCA, Galaxy Bar, 1920, and MINA Brasserie.
DIFC has two metro stations — Financial Centre Metro Station and Emirates Towers Metro Station — both within walking distance from various parts of the district. In addition, the area has numerous bus stops, with buses 27 and 29 operating throughout the district.
Since Dubai International Financial Centre is primarily an economic and business centre, it is primarily home to educational centres and business schools focused on professional education and advanced training — Kaplan Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Georgetown University in Dubai, IE University – Dubai Office. London Business School Dubai Centre offers an Executive MBA (EMBA) programme and courses for top management.
Families with children will easily find several kindergartens in the area — British Orchard Nursery – DIFC, Blossom DIFC, Best Kidz Nursery DIFC. The nearest prestigious schools are located within a 10-20 minute drive. Among them are Jumeira Baccalaureate School in Jumeirah, GEMS Wellington International School in Al Sufouh, Citizens School in Al Satwa.
In terms of healthcare, residents and employees in DIFC can easily access first-class medical services and qualified care. The area is home to medical centres En Vogue Medical Centre, DIFC and DNA Health & Wellness – DIFC, as well as dental clinics ROZE BioHealth Clinic – DIFC and Dr Manal Harb Medical Centre. Major 24-hour hospitals Latifa Hospital, Emirates Hospital Jumeirah and Medcare are within a 10-15 minute drive.
There is a great choice of farmacies in the Dubai International Financial Centre, including Life Pharmacy 12, Supercare Pharmacy – Oasis Tower, Medicina Pharmacy, LIFE Pharmacy, MedX Pharmacy.
DIFC is one of the most modern and attractive areas in Dubai — not only for business, but also for living and investment. It is conveniently located just 10 minutes from Downtown Dubai and 15 minutes from DXB Airport. The district is rapidly evolving, with new companies opening every year, alongside the development of new residential projects and infrastructure.
Real estate in DIFC is highly liquid, with consistently strong demand for both commercial and residential properties. Employees of the nearly 7,000 companies based in the area are actively seeking housing close to their workplaces. As a result, properties in DIFC sell out at record speed. For example, all units in the upcoming DIFC Living development were sold in less than a month, while apartments and duplexes in DIFC Heights Tower sold out just two days after launch.
